Chapter 8 - The Legal Slaughter

The divorce was the fastest in the history of the county family court.
Elena’s public defender attempted to argue for alimony, claiming she had been a "devoted military spouse" who sacrificed her career.
My attorney, a ruthless former JAG officer named Elias, simply set up a monitor in the courtroom.
“Your Honor,” Elias addressed the judge. “The respondent is currently facing twenty-five years in federal prison for poisoning her mother-in-law and stealing four hundred thousand dollars. I submit the toxicology reports, the security footage, and the bank fraud indictments.”
The judge, a no-nonsense woman with zero tolerance for elder abuse, watched the video of my mother shivering in the rain. She looked at Elena with absolute disgust.

“Counselor, if you ask for alimony one more time, I will hold you in contempt of my courtroom,” the judge snapped. “Divorce granted. The respondent is stripped of all marital assets. She is ordered to pay full restitution, and a permanent restraining order is issued protecting Marcus and his mother.”
Elena sat at the defense table, wearing an orange county jumpsuit, weeping silently. She had lost the house, the money, her reputation, and her freedom. But the worst was yet to come.
