Chapter 1

He Left His Bride for His Mistress—But Losing Me Cost Him Everything
He Abandoned Me on Our Wedding Night for His Mistress—72 Hours Later, He Lost Everything He Thought He Owned
My husband walked out of our honeymoon suite before midnight.
Three days later, his family business was gone.
A week later, he was standing outside my gates, begging security guards to let him see me.
And by then, I couldn't even remember why I had ever loved him.
The clock beside the bed read 10:14 p.m.
The wedding reception had ended less than an hour ago.
Hundreds of guests had watched us exchange vows beneath crystal chandeliers and thousands of white roses. They had applauded when we kissed. They had toasted our future.
They thought they were witnessing the beginning of a fairy tale.
They were actually witnessing the final performance of a very expensive lie.
I sat on the edge of the bed, still wearing my wedding gown.
Across the room, my husband, Nathan Brooks, stared at his phone.
The screen lit up.
One name.
Camille.
Again.
And again.
And again.
His expression softened instantly.
It was the same look I had spent four years trying to earn.
The same look he had never once given me.
Finally, he slipped the phone into his pocket and reached for his jacket.
"I'm leaving for a while," he said casually.
I blinked.
"Leaving?"
"Camille needs me."
The words echoed through the suite.
For a moment, I honestly wondered if I had imagined them.
"We got married today."
His jaw tightened.
"Don't make this difficult."
Difficult.
The woman he cheated with was apparently having a rough night because he had married someone else.
And somehow I was the problem.
I laughed quietly.
Not because it was funny.
Because my heart had finally reached the point where it could no longer break.
"Nathan," I said, "if you walk out that door tonight, don't come back."
He rolled his eyes.
The arrogance was almost impressive.
For years he had mistaken my patience for weakness.
He believed every opportunity he received had come from his talent.
He believed every investor trusted him.
He believed every contract his company signed was earned.
He believed the empire around him belonged to him.
He had never understood that every single door had opened because I quietly held the keys.
"You'll calm down tomorrow," he said.
"No."
His smile faded.
For the first time all evening, uncertainty flickered across his face.
I removed my wedding ring.
Placed it gently on the nightstand.
And looked him directly in the eyes.
"Tomorrow is the day your life changes."
He laughed.
Then he left.
The door slammed behind him.
Silence filled the room.
I waited until the sound of his car disappeared beyond the estate gates.
Then I stood.
And smiled.
Because the war was finally allowed to begin.
At 10:30 p.m., I entered a private office hidden behind the west library.
Only three people in the world knew it existed.
Inside were encrypted servers, financial records, acquisition files, and enough information to destroy several companies.
Including my husband's.
I picked up a secure phone.
The line connected immediately.
"Good evening, Ms. Sterling."
"Start Project Eclipse."
The man on the other end did not ask questions.
He never did.
"Asset recovery?"
"Everything."
"Business contracts?"
"Terminate them."
"Personal accounts?"
"Freeze access."
"Family company?"
I looked out the window toward the dark ocean.
"Sell it."
A brief silence followed.
Then:
"Understood, Chairwoman."
Chairwoman.
The title Nathan had never known belonged to me.
To him, I had always been the supportive wife.
The wealthy woman who smiled beside him at galas.
The quiet partner standing one step behind.
He never bothered asking who actually owned the board votes.
Who controlled the investors.
Who financed the acquisitions.
Who signed the approvals.
By sunrise, he would learn.
The hard way.
Because while Nathan was spending the night with the woman he claimed to love...
An entire empire was already erasing his name from every door.
And when he finally came home three days later...
The mansion would be empty.
The staff would be gone.
The cars would be gone.
His company would belong to someone else.
And the woman he thought would spend her life chasing him...
May you like
Would become the one person he could never reach again.
