Chapter 2 - THE SHELL GAME
We didn't sleep. By 8:00 AM the next morning, Sarah and I were back at the precinct. Detective Vance had been busy.
"The LLC your sister-in-law set up is called 'Apex Ventures,'" Vance explained, sliding a manila folder across the table. "It's a ghost company. But we traced the IP address of the device that authorized the online transfers. It pinged from your home Wi-Fi, Arthur."
I closed my eyes. "Martha. She always handled the iPad."
"It gets worse," Vance continued. "Brenda isn't just a freeloader. She has two prior convictions for wire fraud in Nevada. She targets older men, drains their accounts, and vanishes. It looks like this time, she convinced your wife to be the inside man."

"Why?" I choked out. "Martha had everything. The house is paid off. My pension was more than enough."
Sarah pulled out her laptop, having spent the night digging into public property records. "Because she didn't just want enough, Dad. I found something. Martha and Brenda recently put a down payment on a luxury condo in Costa Rica. They weren't just stealing your money. They were planning to leave you."
