Chapter 10 - The Dawn of the Free

Special agents from the Federal Attorney General's Office swarmed into the grand hall, weapons drawn and identification badges displayed.
Behind them stood the Chief Federal Prosecutor, holding an unsealed indictment bearing forty-eight felony counts.
Octavio Alcázar was dragged out in heavy chains, facing life imprisonment for attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, and racketeering.
Doña Rebeca was handcuffed and escorted away from her empire, her head hanging low in absolute disgrace as reporters' flashbulbs illuminated her arrest from beyond the gates.
Every offshore shell corporation was frozen, and the unedited will was officially certified by the State Supreme Court within forty-eight hours.
Every single asset, property, and voting share of the Alcázar dynasty was permanently transferred to Valeria and her son, Mateo.
Five months later, warm golden sunshine flooded the private garden of a modest coastal villa overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Sebastián had permanently closed the dark hacienda in the mountains, turning it into a public children's sanctuary funded entirely by the family trust.
On the lush green lawn, Luciana was laughing brightly, tossing a colorful beach ball with a smiling young Tomás, who had fully recovered from his injuries.
Valeria sat beneath the shade of an ivory pergola, looking radiant, healthy, and completely free of pain.
The dark bruises that had once covered her body were gone, replaced by a warm, sun-kissed glow of complete vitality.
In her arms, six-month-old Mateo was giggling happily, waving his tiny hands at the ocean breeze.
Sebastián walked out from the villa carrying two glasses of fresh tropical juice, a deep, peaceful smile resting on his lips.
He sat beside Valeria, wrapping one strong, protective arm around her shoulders and kissing her forehead.
Valeria leaned into his embrace, closing her eyes as a sigh of profound contentment escaped her lips.
"We made it, Sebastián," Valeria whispered softly, resting her hand over his.
"Our family is finally safe."
Sebastián looked at his wife and his laughing son, his heart overflowing with a love so fierce it felt unbreakable.
"Nothing will ever hurt you again, my love," Sebastián vowed with absolute sincerity.
"I swear it on my life."
They sat together watching the golden sun dip below the shimmering horizon, believing the nightmare had finally reached its end.
Later that evening, after putting Mateo to sleep in his nursery, Sebastián walked into his private study to review the monthly trust distribution reports.
Lying on the center of his desk was an unmarked wax-sealed envelope that had not arrived through the postal system.
Sebastián broke the black wax seal and pulled out a single photograph taken two days ago in a private clinic in Buenos Aires.

The photograph showed Sebastián’s supposedly deceased father sitting in a garden, very much alive and looking directly into the camera.
Written on the back of the photograph in his father’s undeniable penmanship was a chilling message: "Rebeca was only the first test, Sebastián; now prove to me that you deserve the empire."
