Chapter 1 - The Titanium Secret

The emergency room doctor gently wiped the remaining vanilla frosting away from my cheek.
I flinched as a sharp, agonizing pain radiated deep into my jawbone.
He adjusted his bright surgical overhead light to get a much better look at the deep gash.
My hands shook violently against the thin, crinkly paper of the examination table.
I still could not understand why my sister Sarah had attacked me with such vicious, unprovoked force.
The doctor picked up a pair of long, silver surgical tweezers from a sterile metal tray.
He warned me to stay completely still because the foreign object was lodged incredibly deep in my facial tissue.
I squeezed my eyes shut and prayed for the excruciating procedure to be over quickly.
I felt a sickening, scraping tugging sensation beneath my skin.
The doctor gasped sharply and dropped something heavy into the metal basin.
I opened my eyes and looked down at the bloody, stainless steel tray.
It was not a piece of a cake support wire or a stray plastic wedding decoration.
It was a small, jagged capsule made of heavy, solid titanium.
The object was meticulously designed with sharp, razor-like edges meant to pierce flesh.
My sister had intentionally driven this metal weapon directly into my face in front of a hundred guests.
The doctor called his supervisor into the room with a terrified, shaking tone in his voice.
Two more physicians rushed in and stared at the bloody titanium object in absolute horror.
One of them grabbed a pair of thick protective gloves and carefully cracked the metallic capsule open.
Inside the intricate casing was a tiny, highly sophisticated microchip.
A microscopic red light on the center of the chip was blinking in a steady, rhythmic pulse.
The head doctor immediately pulled out his cell phone and dialed a direct line to the federal police.
He looked at me with an expression of pure, unadulterated pity and fear.
He told me that this specific type of tracking chip was exclusively used by the ruthless Navarro cartel.
My blood ran completely cold as the devastating reality of his words washed over me.
He locked the emergency room door and warned me that we were in grave, immediate danger.

The blinking red light meant the cartel was actively tracking the signal right to this very hospital.
And the signal was broadcasting our exact location to a team of highly trained, merciless killers.
