Chapter 4 - The Unjust Arrest

Arthur did not hesitate for a single second as he sprinted wildly through the dark room, tackling the massive intruder with the desperate, unstoppable force of a terrified father.

Both men crashed violently through the remaining shards of the glass patio doors, tumbling out onto the cold stone terrace as the cold night wind howled around them.

The huge man grunted in surprise but quickly recovered, landing a brutally heavy punch directly across Arthur’s jaw that sent stars dancing rapidly across his vision.

Despite the blinding pain, Arthur blindly reached out and grabbed a handful of the attacker’s heavy tactical vest, refusing to let the monster take another step toward his crying son.

"Run back inside to Maria, Leo, run right now and do not look back!" Arthur screamed with all his remaining strength, spitting a mouthful of warm blood onto the stone tiles.

He heard the beautiful sound of his son's tiny footsteps rapidly retreating into the dark mansion, confirming that the boy had successfully escaped the immediate grasp of the kidnapper.

The massive thug growled in intense frustration and pulled a heavy combat knife from his belt, the serrated blade catching a faint glint of the pale moonlight.

Before the attacker could plunge the deadly weapon into Arthur's chest, a blinding barrage of flashing red and blue lights suddenly erupted from the main driveway.

The piercing wail of multiple police sirens shattered the quiet night air, causing the armed intruder to instantly freeze and look frantically toward the front gates.

"The boss didn't mention anything about the damn cops showing up this early!" the thug panicked, kicking Arthur violently in the ribs before sprinting away into the dense woods bordering the estate.

Arthur gasped for breath and painfully clutched his bruised side, slowly forcing himself to stand up as dozens of heavily armed police officers swarmed the luxurious property.

He stumbled back inside the dark house, desperately relieved to find Maria sitting up and tightly hugging a sobbing Leo behind the bullet-riddled sofas.

"Thank God you are both alive," Arthur breathed out heavily, dropping his empty pistol onto the floor and raising his hands as heavily armed officers stormed into the ruined living room.

"Nobody move a single muscle, keep your hands exactly where I can see them!" the lead detective barked, sweeping his flashlight across the chaotic scene of destruction.

Arthur immediately recognized Detective Vance from the local precinct, a man he had personally donated thousands of dollars to during the annual police charity ball.

"Detective, thank God you are here, my attorney Marcus and several armed men just broke in and tried to kidnap my son!" Arthur explained quickly, pointing toward the shattered glass doors.

Detective Vance slowly lowered his flashlight, his face completely expressionless as he casually stepped over the broken crystal vase on the ruined rug.

"That is a very fascinating story, Mr. Vance, especially considering your wife just called us screaming that you were experiencing a violent psychotic break," the detective replied coldly.

Arthur stared at the seasoned police officer in absolute disbelief, his exhausted mind struggling to comprehend the massive web of lies suddenly closing around him.

"Elena is part of this massive conspiracy, she literally disabled the security system and invited armed men into my home to steal my son's trust fund!" Arthur desperately pleaded.

Just then, Elena walked elegantly down the grand staircase, entirely unharmed and dramatically dabbing her dry eyes with a perfectly folded silk handkerchief.

"Officer, he has been acting completely paranoid all week, waving that gun around and terrifying poor little Leo with his insane delusions," Elena lied smoothly, acting the part of the traumatized victim flawlessly.

Maria angrily tried to stand up to defend her employer, but a rough police officer immediately shoved her back down and pointed a heavy taser directly at her chest.

"Do not listen to a single word that wicked woman says, she is the one who forged the banking documents to steal millions of dollars!" Maria shouted bravely, ignoring the dangerous weapon.

Detective Vance simply sighed heavily and pulled a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his tactical utility belt, walking slowly and deliberately toward the bleeding father.

"Arthur Vance, you are officially under arrest for domestic assault, reckless endangerment of a minor, and attempted murder of your wife," the corrupt detective announced in a monotone voice.

Arthur fiercely fought against the officers as they violently twisted his arms behind his back, his desperate eyes locking onto his terrified son who was screaming for his father.

"You cannot leave my child with this dangerous monster, she is actively trying to kill him for his inheritance money!" Arthur roared, completely ignoring the painful clicking of the tight handcuffs.

Elena walked slowly over to the sobbing little boy and forcefully grabbed his tiny arm, flashing Arthur a completely evil, victorious smile that chilled him to the bone.

"Don't worry about little Leo, darling, I will make absolutely sure he gets exactly what he truly deserves," Elena whispered maliciously as the officers dragged Arthur forcefully out the front door.

As Arthur was violently shoved into the dark back seat of the freezing police cruiser, he saw Marcus step out from the shadows of the porch and casually hand Detective Vance a thick, bulging envelope.
