Chapter 6 - The Sub-Basement

"Welcome home, Andrew," David smiled warmly, stepping aside to let his armed men surround us completely.

I slowly lowered my shotgun and dropped it to the pristine white floor, knowing we were entirely outgunned.

The guards violently grabbed my arms and forced me to my knees on the cold tiles.

Two other mercenaries grabbed Ethan, holding the terrified boy tightly by his small shoulders.

"You really shouldn't have brought the company property back to the office," David mocked, patting Ethan's head.

I lunged forward in pure rage, but a guard viciously struck me across the jaw with the butt of his rifle.

I tasted warm blood in my mouth as I collapsed heavily onto my side.

David ordered his men to drag us deep into the sprawling underground laboratory.

The facility was absolutely massive, filled with endless rows of medical equipment and glowing computer servers.

They dragged us into a large central observation room surrounded by thick bulletproof glass.

Sarah was still strapped tightly to the metal surgical chair in the center of the room.

Her beautiful face was bruised, and she looked incredibly exhausted, but her eyes lit up when she saw us.

"Andrew," she cried out, tears instantly streaming down her pale cheeks.

"I am so sorry I lied to you," she sobbed, struggling against the heavy leather restraints.

"I know why you did it, Sarah," I replied, trying to crawl toward her before a guard kicked me back down.

David clapped his hands loudly, demanding the room's attention like a theatrical ringmaster.

"This is a very touching family reunion, but we have a strict corporate schedule to keep," David announced cheerfully.

He walked over to a highly advanced medical console and began typing rapidly on the keyboard.

"You see, Andrew, your clone was a massive scientific breakthrough, but his cellular structure is degrading."

David looked down at Ethan with a cold, calculating disgust.

"We need fresh bone marrow from the original host to stabilize the boy's genetic code before we can harvest his organs."

I felt a sickening wave of absolute terror wash over me.

David didn't just want Ethan to die, he needed to harvest my body as well.

He pulled a massive, terrifyingly thick needle from a sterile silver tray.

He walked slowly toward me, ordering two massive guards to hold me completely still on the floor.

"This is going to hurt quite a bit, old friend," David whispered, pressing his knee into my chest.

Suddenly, a deafening explosion rocked the entire underground facility, shaking the concrete walls violently.

The heavy steel reinforced door of the observation room blew completely off its hinges, crushing two of the mercenaries instantly.

Through the thick, burning black smoke, a squad of men in unmarked black tactical gear poured into the room firing suppressed weapons.

They weren't my men, and they clearly weren't David's men.

The lead tactical operator lowered his weapon and removed his black helmet, revealing a face I recognized immediately.

It was my supposedly dead driver, Thomas, and he was smiling.
