Chapter 10 - The Rebuilding

Six months later.

The sun was shining brightly over Los Angeles. I stood on the balcony of a massive new penthouse suite in the tallest skyscraper downtown.

Marcus Thorne and Eleanor Vance had both been sentenced to thirty years in a maximum-security federal prison without the possibility of parole. Their assets were seized, their names forever disgraced.

I had my fortune back. Every single dollar.

But I didn't rebuild the empire the way it was before. I was done with the superficial vanity, the fake friends, and the toxic corporate greed.

The double doors of the office swung open.

Maria walked in. But she wasn't wearing a faded gray housekeeping uniform. She was wearing a perfectly tailored, navy blue executive suit, carrying a leather portfolio.

"The board is ready for you, Richard," Maria said, her sharp, intelligent eyes smiling at me.

"Thank you, Maria."

When I reclaimed my company, I didn't hire a bunch of Ivy League executives to run it. I promoted the smartest, most loyal, most unshakeable person I had ever met. Maria Silva was now the Chief Operating Officer of Vance Enterprises, commanding a multi-billion-dollar portfolio with the same meticulous, flawless precision she used to run my household.

We walked into the boardroom together. The investors stood up, offering their hands, looking at us with genuine, unadulterated respect.

I sat at the head of the table, Maria at my right hand.

I had lost my house, but in the ruins, I had found out exactly who belonged in it. And this time, the foundation was unbreakable.
